The Central Artist-s House: 18.30, The evening of Celtic music, "Puck Ln- Piper" and "Tintal" bands playing.
The Central House of Aritsts will sponsor a concert of Celtic folk music devoted to St. Brigit-s Day, on February 3rd at 6:30 p.m.
St. Brigit is one of the three most important Irish saints, together with St. Patrick and St. Colum Cille, and her commemoration is an essential part of a living tradition in Ireland.
The Irish were famiiar with St. Brigit long before Christianity came to the island. She was a powerful heathen goddess, patronizing art, wisdom and poetry. She was also said to be the daughter of Dagda, one of the main Celtic gods ¦ a sort of Celtic Jupiter-or so the Romans thought.
There is also another version placing St. Brigit even on a higher rank, it says that she is one of the three emanations of the Great Mother Goddess, Danu.
These days the devoted continue to worship St. Brigit, even doing strange things as burying a chicken by the side of a river and burning a constant fire in Brigit-s honor. There will be no buried chickens at Moscow St. Brigit-s Day but the well-known Russian bands Puck Ln- Piper and Tintan (ex Dar) will be playing live music. Puck Ln- Piper is one of Moscow-s oldest Irish folk singing bands.
The musicians play both Celtic tunes and their own compositions using traditional instruments such as pipes, fiddles, flutes, and whistles in their performances.
The guests of the Moscow St. Brigit-s Day are welcome to dance, sing, and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of a real Irish party.
