Opera and pop singer Nikolai Baskov has become the youngest person ever to receive a For Peacekeeping and Charity medal, the weekly 7 Dnei reported. Baskov was awarded the medal by the Russian Peace Fund for his record-setting number of charity concerts. Throughout his career, he has given 160 charity concerts at hospitals, military units and orphanages.

This medal has previously been awarded to violinist Vladimir Spivakov, violist Yury Bashmet, conductor and cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and singer Montserrat Caballe. "Of all my awards, this one is particularly precious to me," Baskov said. "I promise I will continue giving charity concerts as often as I have in the past." Next up for Baskov is a performance at the famous L'Olympia in Paris.
