The Masculine Principle
Russia is famous for its "real men," ready to take on difficult missions, and, if necessary, sacrifice themselves for the sake of good. Modern-day members of this brotherhood will gather in the Napoleon banquet hall on Sept. 30 for the first-ever awards ceremony, Masculine Principle. There will be awards for six categories, though three winners, for "Men's Business," "Men's Cinema" and "Men's Music," are already known: aluminum tycoon Oleg Deripaska, politician and director Nikita Mikhalkov and singer Alexander Marshal, respectively. The event will also include a men's fashion show from designer Denis Simachyov, a men's work show by anti-terrorist service operatives and a showing of the film "Men's Season."
Living classic
Yuri Lyubimov, the founder and art director of the Taganka Theater, will celebrate his 85th birthday on Sept. 30, and scheduled that same day is the premiere of his new production of Goethe's Faust. The audience will be able to see that the director is still in top form - and outdoes many young directors who are one-third his age.
The golden constellation
It's the 500th anniversary of the first mention of that symbol of Russian statehood, the Hat of Monomakh.
