Pop singer Alsou Safina (stage name Alsou) has at last found time in her busy schedule to fulfill the promise she made to her grandparents, the daily Zhizn reported. She has recorded a song, "Etkey," in the Tatar language. Alsou's grandparents had often reproached her for her poor knowledge of Tatar culture and for not using her talent to popularize it.

"You so rarely sing in our native language," Alsou's grandmother complained. Alsou said she was afraid of mispronouncing the language, so her grandmother then called in relatives to teach her the Tatar language and folk songs. The result soon followed: "I called my grandma before the recording, sang the song to her on the phone and she gave me useful advice on pronunciation," Alsou told Zhizn.
