Ekaterina Filippovna LAKHOVA is marriedand has one son. She was born on May 26, 1948. Lakhova graduated from theState Medical Institute with a degree in paediatrics. She has worked asa nurse, district doctor, and deputy head of the Maternity and ChildhoodDepartment attached to the City Council of Sverdlovsk and deputy head ofthe Public Health Care Department of the Sverdlovsk Region.

In 1990, Lakhova was elected people’sdeputy of Russia and head of the Supreme Soviet Committee on Women, Family,Maternity and Childhood. In 1991, she worked as a presidential advisor,and in 1993, Lakhova chaired the Presidential Commission on Women, Familyand Demography.

In December 1993, Lakhova was electedState Duma deputy. Later, she headed the Women of Russia State Duma faction.

In December 1995, she was again electedto the State Duma T this time as the nominee of single-member districtNo. 180, Ulyanovsk Region. Lakhova is a member of the Russian Regions groupand a member of the State Duma Committee on Agenda and Organisation ofWork.

Following a split in the Women ofRussia movement, Lakhova became leader of the All Russian Socio-politicalMovement of Russia’s Women.
