LOS ANGELES – Recovering drug addict Robert Downey Jr. has been bombarding pop star Christina Aguilera with faxes asking her out, the U.K. Sun reports.

The actor wouldn't take no for an answer and sent streams of love notes to the singer.

A source told the Sun: "She was quite flattered at first, but after about three dozen faxes she got tired of Robert's mushy love notes.

"She thinks Robert's a great actor but she certainly doesn't fancy him – there's quite an age difference."

Aguilera decided to take action and faxed back the actor, saying: "Look, you're too old!" Aguilera, 22, hasn't heard from the 37-year-old since.

The singer is currently promoting her hit album "Stripped."

Meanwhile, Downey has been in Park City, Utah, at the Sundance Film Festival for screenings of his new movie, "The Singing Detective."

The movie is seen as a comeback for the actor, who has battled drug addiction and spent time in jail for drug possession.
