Music isn’t just a passion for Cesaria Evora, it’s a reflection of her interior emotional experience. Her songs are about everything that matters in life – love, death and solitude. Each of her 11 albums is a stop on her long, existential journey. Evora’s philosophy is simple and wise: The more you learn about the world, the more you learn about yourself.

Evora only speaks Crioulo, a melodic blend of Portuguese and African language, while her Morna singing style is the most representative musical style of her homeland, the northern African archipelago of Cape Verde. When she was 35, she stopped singing for 10 years, unable to support her family with her music alone. Shortly after Cape Verde’s independence in 1975, a Portuguese businessman decided to promote Cesaria to the world, making Morna’s slow rhythm and melancholy lyrics world-famous.

In 1988, thanks to her new producer Jose da Silva, Evora performed in Paris. The same year she made her debut album, "La Diva Aux Pieds Nus." "The Barefoot Diva" is also Evora’s nickname because she prefers to perform barefoot. Evora has been nominated for Grammy awards three times and has won many prizes. The diva returns to Moscow after two successful 2002 performances here, this time with her friends Fantcha (vocals), Tito Paris (vocals, guitars), Teofilo Chantre (guitars). She will give a single concert in Moscow’s Olympiisky Stadium on April 2 at 7 p.m.
