CHISINAU - Moscow believes that except the ongoing peacekeeping operation in the Transnistrian region there are no other ways to solve the conflict, Russian Special Envoy to Chisinau Igor Savolsky said. According to him, the operation has proved its efficiency over the past ten years. There were no clashes with Moldova, Savolsky stressed. "One can criticize certain representatives of peacekeeping forces in the region, but Russia should not change its peacekeeping contingent in the region in general," he emphasized.
Earlier Moldova Reintegration Minister Vasiliy Shova announced as an OSCE meeting in Vienna that the peacekeeping operation in the region in its current form was not meeting the criteria of countering modern threats and challenges. According to Shova, Moldova was annoyed with human rights violations and escalation of tensions in the region.
