Arbitration court to hear Yuganskneftegaz complaint

MOSCOW — The Arbitration Court of Moscow will consider today Yuganskneftegaz's complaint against the federal tax service's decision to claim RUR29.6 billion (about $1.03 billion) from the company in unpaid taxes for 2002.

Hearings of similar complaints by Yuganskneftegaz against tax claims for 1999-2003, totaling about RUR150 billion (about $5.2 billion), were postponed repeatedly due to the parties' unpreparedness for the proceedings and the need for additional materials.

Tax officials accuse Yuganskneftegaz of evading taxes through creating subsidiaries in tax-free areas, using the same scheme as YUKOS.

Yuganskneftegaz insists that such additional tax inspections are illegal.
