MOSCOW — Mikhail Kasyanov, former prime minister of Russia, has been notified a tax inspection will commence against his consulting company MK Analitika, Vremya Novostei newspaper reported. Kasyanov isn't bothered by the news. The firm, which was only six months old, had few financial documents, yet inspectors were already eager to check them, he remarked, noting that inspections typically occur after one year.
The ex-premier said he understood their hidden agenda. “They want information about our clients,” he said, claiming that MK Analitika suffered not only a moral but also significant material damage from these unwanted inspections.
Experts aren't aware of tax examinations during the first two years of a company’s existence. Such checks usually take place at the end of the third year of business, with exceptions for large companies. Under Russian law, tax agencies can only back-date tax payers inspections to the third year.
In keeping with his nonchalant attitude, Kasyanov promised to take part, “in one form or another,” in the forthcoming regional and federal elections, Kommersant newspaper reported.
Mikhail Kasyanov returned from his summer vacation on Monday. His return is seen as one of the key intrigues of this summer. The former prime minister is involved in the investigation over the acquisition of state summer homes by firms close to him, and many analysts say Kasyanov might face criminal charges.
