A group of parliamentarians behind a proposed media law restricting foreign investment in Russia's mass media are holding a consultation session in Moscow on June 4.

The roundtable discussion will take place in the President Hotel's Presidential Library and will involve State Duma deputies, Russian and foreign media owners, journalists and government officials. One of the organizers of the discussion, Duma Deputy Alexander Chuev, said: "We would like to discuss with all interested parties and hear all opinions before the law comes up for its second reading." The proposed legislation, which was passed with an overwhelming majority in its first reading earlier this year, would restrict foreign ownership in Russian media to 50 percent minus one share, in what deputies say is a bid to prevent outsiders from using the power of the media in "anti-Russian interests."
