‘Like humor, everyone understands erotica in their own way," said photographer Mikhail Guterman. "It's an individual, personal concept. I personally think that erotica is complex and various. It can be a gesture, dance, touch, longing, lust, flirting or adultery."

Together with another photographer, Irina Lavrina, he has put on an exhibition of "Erotica in Theater Photography." The collection of 105 photos, demonstrating some of the most erotic scenes to have appeared on stage, is an attempt to depict "the erotic explosion" in Moscow theaters.

"Actually, it was Irina's idea," said Guterman. "When she first suggested it, I laughed. But as soon as I started considering the photos, I began to be interested. The important thing is to have a sense of measure. I have my own limits. Erotic scenes shouldn't be obscene, vulgar, dirty or in bad taste. They shouldn't make people feel disgusted or awkward. Nevertheless, I think the scenes should excite their audience."

The exhibition ends October 22.
